Women of the world unite

This year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the monumental Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of 1995, which is considered to be the most pioneering agenda for advancing women and girl’s rights. Since then, the agenda has been adopted by 189 governments as a sign of commitment to advocate for gender equality around the globe.

Despite the great achievements thus far, and the continuous efforts of UN Women in championing gender equality and engaging state and non-state actors, there is still a lot to be done in fully recognizing women’s rights and gender equality as an integral part of human rights. As gender equality is the core foundation of the Beijing declaration, it is of great importance to include the voices of lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LBTQI) women.

In this web talk, we will discuss with Rashima Kwatra, Advocacy Advisor at RFSL Sweden, why it’s important for the LGBTQI+ community to be present and engaged at the UN level (the challenges and achievements), and how can we employ an intersectional feminist approach in implementing the Beijing declaration goals.

And we will answer the following questions: What is the generation equality process about? Where do LGBTI-organizations engage? What are the aims of this engagement?

This Web-event will take place in English and is aimed at activists, students, scholars, everyone with an interest in international relations and human rights for women and girls and LGBTI people.
