[…] The Lesbian and Gay Association (LSVD) welcomes this historic decision! The vote from Germany’s Federal Council today (March 22, 2013) is the beginning of the end of discrimination. For the first time, a constitutional body has decided in favor for the complete opening of marriage (with no strings attached) to everyone. This is a very strong signal to Germany’s Federal Parliament. The majority of the Federal Council represents the views of the German citizens. The government can no longer ignore these broad, social majorities and support for marriage equality any longer. Also, there is a majority in parliament for the opening of marriage (replacing the civil union in place today and since 2001) to everyone. SPD, FDP, Alliance 90/The Greens and the Left are in favor. But the black-yellow coalition government is currently blocking all progress. The LSVD calls on parliamentarians to follow the recommendation of the Federal Council. Show that you’ve got what it takes to be a politician! No half-done business please; marriage is for everyone. Pictures: http://www.lsvd-blog.de/?p=5022 […]
