Beim Einsatz für die Menschenrechte von LSBTIQ* wird oft der Vorwurf des Neokolonialismus erhoben, obwohl gerade die homophoben Gesetze eine Auswirkung der Kolonialzeit sind. In Namibia kippte der High Court erst im Juni 2024 das Verbot von gleichgeschlechtlichen Handlungen, das seit der Kolonialzeit bestand. Welche Chancen gibt es vor diesem Hintergrund für transkontinentale solidarische Allianzen?
In diesem Webtalk sprechen wir mit zwei Aktivistinnen aus Namibia und Botswana und fragen, wie sie im südlichen Afrika für Menschenrechte streiten, was sie erreicht haben und wie wir in Deutschland Dekolonisierung voranbringen können?

Decolonize! But how? — Promoting LGBTIQ+ Human Rights in Southern Africa

Advocates for the human rights of LGBTIQ+ people are often accused of ‘neo-colonialism’ – even though colonialism is the source of the homophobic laws they are seeking to overturn. In June 2024 the Namibian High Court revoked the ban on same-sex acts, which had been in effect since colonial times. With this background in mind, what opportunities are there for transcontinental solidarity alliances?
In this webtalk, we speak with two activists from Namibia and Botswana and ask how they are fighting for human rights in southern Africa, what they have achieved and how we can promote decolonization in Germany.
