In all of her work – not only as a social scientist and filmmaker but also as director of communications and information management for Casa Cultural El Chontaduro in the eastern part of Cali – she promotes equal rights for different ethnic groups and political emancipation for Black youth, women and LGBTIQ+ people.

Julius Kaggwa is an intersex and trans activist in Uganda. He directs the organization “Support Initiative for People with Atypical Sex Development” (SIPD Uganda), which seeks to sustainably change the attitudes toward intersex people. Born in the Kibuye part of Kampala in Uganda, he is a practicing Christian raising four children together with his wife.

Webtalk: Generalstreik und Widerstand in Kolumbien aus intersektionaler Sicht: Ethnizität, Geschlecht und Sexualität

Von Ende April bis noch in den Sommer hinein erschütterte ein Generalstreik gefolgt von einer heftigen Welle von Protesten Kolumbien. Ausgangspunkt war eine geplante Steuerreform, die eine Erhöhung der Mehrwertsteuer beinhaltet hätte. Die hätte vor allem die ärmsten Teile der Bevölkerung belastet, die ohnehin schon um das tägliche Überleben kämpfen müssen und durch die Pandemie und ihre Auflagen noch stärker unter Druck geraten waren. So waren es vor allem diejenigen, die am wenigsten Unterstützung seitens der Regierung erfahren, die die Proteste anführten: schwarze Jugendliche aus den marginalisierten Vierteln der großen Städte, schwarze Frauen und LSBTI.
