Mikhail (Misha) Tumasov (46) is an activist for LGBTQ+ human rights from Russia. He dreamed of becoming a priest. But as a gay man, he was compelled to take another path. Today he works with e.g. the Russian LGBT Network.

Monica Tabengwa (51) is a human-rights activist from Botswana. She grew up with seven siblings and a single mother, became a lawyer and has spent decades working for LGBTIQ+ rights, including with Pan Africa ILGA and Human Rights Watch.
Irene Garoës is an activist who is passionate about feminist movement building at the community and national level with marginalised groups in Namibia. She leads the lesbian projects of the Women’s Leadership Centre, a feminist women’s rights organisation based in Namibia.
Tash Dowell (35) is a queer human rights activist from Zimbabwe. She was a coordinator for the Masakhane Collective in Zimbabwe until late 2020, and in 2021 began working for the Coalition of African Lesbians. She also participates actively in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process for the UN.
Lilith Raza is a queer trans activist from Pakistan who has lived in Germany since 2012. She promotes the rights of LGBTIQ+ refugees, works for the LSVD’s “Queer Refugees Deutschland” project (Gay and Lesbian Foundation in Germany), and is active in queer networks throughout Europe.

On 19 June 2020, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution requesting the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights “to prepare a report on systemic racism, violations of international human rights law against Africans and people of African descent by law enforcement agencies, especially those incidents that resulted in the death of George Floyd and other Africans and people of African descent, to contribute to accountability and redress for victims”.

Das übergreifende Ziel des LSBTI-Inklusionskonzepts für die Auswärtige Politik und die Entwicklungszusammenarbeit lautet:
“Die deutsche Auswärtige Politik und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit unterstützen die zivilgesellschaftliche Menschenrechtsarbeit für LSBTI-Personen strukturell nachhaltig unter besonderer Berücksichtigung spezifischer Vulnerabilitäten und Mehrfachdiskriminierungen.“

Seit Juni 2021 liegt dem ghanaischen Parlament ein Gesetz vor. Ein Gesetz, das Menschen der LGBTIQ-Community diskriminieren, jene Personen aus der Gesellschaft ausschließen und ihre sexuelle Orientierung kriminalisieren soll. Bereits im Januar 2021 kam es nach der Eröffnung eines Zentrums für LGBTIQ in Accra zu Übergriffen der Polizei: Im Mai wurden in der Region Obervolta 21 Personen festgenommen, die an einem Training zu den Rechten von intergeschlechtlichen Menschen und LGBT insgesamt teilgenommen hatten.
