Einladung zum Webtralk am 26.3.2024 Die Kriminalisierung von homosexuellen Handlungen und rigide Geschlechterrollen sind Auswirkungen der Kolonialgeschichte. Das zeigt der Bericht des Unabhängigen Experten der UN zu den Folgen des Kolonialismus in Bezug auf sexuelle Orientierung und Geschlechtsidentität (SOGI).
Guillermo Ricalde von ILGA World fasst den UN-Bericht zusammen und stellt die wichtigsten Themen und Empfehlungen vor. Karina Theurer, Völkerrechtlerin, ordnet dies in den Kontext der deutschen Kolonialgeschichte ein, und erklärt die völkerrechtliche Ebene von Wiedergutmachung bezogen auf Namibia.

Hintergrund:
Im Herbst 2023 hat der Unabhängige Experte der UN gegen Gewalt aufgrund von SOGI seinen Bericht zu den Folgen des Kolonialismus auf LSBTIQ* veröffentlicht. ILGA World als internationaler Dachverband von queeren Organisationen hat dazu einen eigenen Kommentar geliefert. Guillermo Ricalde ist Menschenrechtsexperte und arbeitet für ILGA World in Genf zu UN-Sonderverfahren. Karina Theurer ist Völkerrechtsexpertin und lehrt Menschenrechtsdurchsetzung an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Queer Colonial Experience ‒ Webtalk March 26 ‒ Impact of colonialism on LGBTIQ+ people
The criminalization of homosexual acts and the imposition of a rigid gender binary are two consequences of colonial history. This is shown in the UN Independent Expert’s report on the impact of colonialism and decolonialization on the continued formation and perpetuation of harmful social mores associated with sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI).
Guillermo Ricalde from ILGA World summarizes the UN report and discusses major points and recommendations. Karina Theurer, a human rights lawyer, places the topic in the context of German colonial history and explains international law considerations on reparations with respect to Namibia.

Background:
In autumn 2023 the UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) published his report on the impact of colonialism on LGBTIQ+ people. ILGA World, a worldwide federation of queer organizations, has given a commentary on the report. Guillermo Ricalde is an expert on human rights, migration and intercultural relations and works for ILGA World in Geneva, including with the UN Special Procedures. Karina Theurer is an expert in international law and teaches human rights enforcement at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
The event will be held in English and German, with simultaneous interpretation.
