23 Ja-Stimmen, sieben Enthaltungen und 17 Nein-Stimmen: mit diesem knappen Ergebnis hat der UN-Menschenrechtsrat in Genf am 7. Juli 2022 das Mandat des UN-Experten gegen Gewalt aufgrund der sexuellen Orientierung und Geschlechtsidentität (SOGI) erneuert.
Dr. Frank Mugisha (38) is a human rights activist from Uganda and Executive Director of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) which works for the rights of LGBTIQ+ people. He was born and grew up in Kampala, and was raised a Christian.
Dédé Oetomo (68) is known as the godfather of the Indonesian LGBTIQ+ movement. He is a social scientist, AIDS activist, and role model for generations of young Indonesians. For his work as a human rights activist, Oetomo was honoured back in 1998 by the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (today’s OutRight Action International).
Jean Elie Gasana (43) is a Christian LGBTI activist from Rwanda. A co-founder of the LGBTI organization Other Sheep Rwanda, he works for human rights in his homeland, especially those of LGBTI people in Rwanda and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Dragana Todorovic (41) is a lesbian feminist activist from Serbia who has been working for human rights and gender equality for more than 20 years. She is the initiator and executive director of the LGBTI Equal Rights Association for Western Balkans and Turkey (ERA).
José Ignacio López (53) is a human rights and LGBTI activist from Nicaragua. He works for the Red de Desarrollo Sostenible (RDS) organization, which was awarded the Franco-German Prize for Human Rights in 2019

Cesnabmihilo Dorothy Nuhu-Aken’Ova (58) is a Nigerian linguist and feminist who began working for women’s, youth and LGBTI rights in her homeland in the mid-1990s. She is the executive director of the International Centre for Sexual Reproductive Rights (INCRESE), which she founded in 2000. Her motivation: “I do not like injustice, and I have zero tolerance for all violations of human rights!”
Irene Garoës is an activist who is passionate about feminist movement building at the community and national level with marginalised groups in Namibia. She leads the lesbian projects of the Women’s Leadership Centre, a feminist women’s rights organisation based in Namibia.
Lilith Raza is a queer trans activist from Pakistan who has lived in Germany since 2012. She promotes the rights of LGBTIQ+ refugees, works for the LSVD’s “Queer Refugees Deutschland” project (Gay and Lesbian Foundation in Germany), and is active in queer networks throughout Europe.
