Dédé Oetomo (68) is known as the godfather of the Indonesian LGBTIQ+ movement. He is a social scientist, AIDS activist, and role model for generations of young Indonesians. For his work as a human rights activist, Oetomo was honoured back in 1998 by the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (today’s OutRight Action International).

Andriy Maymulakhin (52) is an LGBTI activist from Ukraine and founder of the LGBT Human Rights Nash Mir Center. In the 1990s he was one of the first activists in Ukraine to launch the gay and lesbian movement.
José Ignacio López (53) is a human rights and LGBTI activist from Nicaragua. He works for the Red de Desarrollo Sostenible (RDS) organization, which was awarded the Franco-German Prize for Human Rights in 2019

Cesnabmihilo Dorothy Nuhu-Aken’Ova (58) is a Nigerian linguist and feminist who began working for women’s, youth and LGBTI rights in her homeland in the mid-1990s. She is the executive director of the International Centre for Sexual Reproductive Rights (INCRESE), which she founded in 2000. Her motivation: “I do not like injustice, and I have zero tolerance for all violations of human rights!”
Mauri Balanta Jaramillo (34) is a human rights activist from Columbia. In all of her work – not only as a social scientist and filmmaker but also as director of communications and information management for Casa Cultural El Chontaduro in the eastern part of Cali – she promotes equal rights for different ethnic groups and political emancipation for Black youth, women and LGBTIQ+ people.
Ali Bousselmi (33) is a human rights activist from Tunisia. He is a co-founder and executive director of the Mawjoudin organisation, which promotes equality for LGBTQI+ and other marginalised groups.

Julius Kaggwa is an intersex and trans activist in Uganda. He directs the organization “Support Initiative for People with Atypical Sex Development” (SIPD Uganda), which seeks to sustainably change the attitudes toward intersex people. Born in the Kibuye part of Kampala in Uganda, he is a practicing Christian raising four children together with his wife.
