Webtalk and Workshop with the Yogyakarta Alliance and activists from Namibia and Rwanda

Three years ago, on March 3, 2021, the German government’s LGBTI inclusion strategy for Foreign Policy and Development Cooperation was adopted. The concept references colonialism and missionary history as important aspects. The concept and this reference are a result of years of advocacy by LSVD, Hirschfeld Eddy Foundation and the Yogyakarta Alliance.

Vor drei Jahren, am 03. März 2021 wurde das LSBTI-Inklusionskonzept der Bundesregierung für die Auswärtige Politik und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit verabschiedet. Dass auch auf die Folgen von Missionsgeschichte und Kolonialismus verwiesen wurde, ist ein Erfolg der Arbeit der Yogyakarta-Allianz.

Fighting for LGBTIQ+ inclusion in Rwanda’s deeply religious society

Over the past few months, across East Africa, there has been an increased crackdown on the rights and freedoms of LGBTIQ+ communities. Countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, and Ethiopia have successfully passed repressive legislation and/or witnessed an increased number of arrests of LGBTIQ+ persons.

Jean Elie Gasana (43) is a Christian LGBTI activist from Rwanda. A co-founder of the LGBTI organization Other Sheep Rwanda, he works for human rights in his homeland, especially those of LGBTI people in Rwanda and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
